I have been a nurse for a little over 20 years, graduating from NYU Nursing School in 1995. I have worked in hospitals, clinics and home care, but school nursing is one of my favorite jobs so far!
I’m also an Integrative Nurse Coach – helping people make healthy lifestyle changes. I believe that healthy eating, exercise, good sleep, fresh air and time with the people we love can go a long way in keeping us healthy.
I grew up spending summers in Southwest Harbor and always wondered why on earth we were going home to New Jersey in September. I moved here in 1997 and not one September has gone by that I don’t feel extra lucky to be here.
I live in Somesville with my son and my husband. When I’m not at school I love spending as much time as I can in our national park enjoying this incredible place we live

I have worked as secretary here at Pemetic since 2014. I commute every day by ferry boat from Swan’s Island. I love spending time with my husband, my kids, and my grandson. I love my job at Pemetic, but the thing I love most about it here are the people! We have some of the community’s most caring adults working here. I am very thankful to be able to work in such a wonderful place.

I arrived on MDI in 1968–fresh from UMO—taught physical education and coached girls sport teams for four years. In 1979 I drove a bus for the district. In 1984 I arrived at Pemetic to be an Ed. Tech. in grades K-8 and later taught health classes. I am now working with grandchildren of students I had three decades ago!
During the last 35 years I have worn many hats: Ed. Tech., bus driver, coach, physical education teacher in every grade except 3rd, math in middle school, class advisor.
My home is in Bernard where I kayak, sail, garden and read to my 12 year old cat-Hermione (named by my grandson when he was 7.)

Susan RavenEd TechAbout Me
I work in the Reading Room and throughout the school helping students improve their reading skills and helping them develop a love of reading. I also assist with writing and special projects. Before coming to Pemetic I taught 4th grade on Vinalhaven, K-5 Science in North Carolina, taught at the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science, and traveled widely doing science field research. I also enjoyed managing an independent bookstore that focused on travel books and maps. At times I also led wilderness trips on the Appalachian Trail and Delaware River, taught rappelling and facilitated a ropes course. Variety is the spice of life, and I enjoy encouraging students to learn all they can about the world they live in.
When I am not teaching, I’m enjoying the outdoors, snowshoeing, biking, running, gardening, enjoying the Acadia trails, and camping with my family. In the semester before starting at Pemetic, my husband and I and our 2 daughters, who go to Pemetic, camped around America for 5 months! Our Road School USA was an experience I recommend to everyone! Other hobbies keep me busy too, like reading, cooking, creating things in our home’s Makerspace, playing music, and helping my girls and husband with projects. In good weather, I also like driving around our family’s little fringe topped Mini Moke! Maybe you’ll see me out in it, so feel free to wave!
