Having been a student at Pemetic myself for grades K-8, it was fitting that my first classroom was here, working alongside my own Kindergarten teacher. That was a one year position, so I taught in Ellsworth next, at grades 3 and 4 for three years. In 2004, I came back to Pemetic, teaching fourth grade. I spent 4 years as a fourth or fifth-grade classroom teacher, focusing on reading and writing. In 2008, I began teaching in the first and second grades, looping back and forth between the grade levels and keeping the same class for two years. I loved getting to know the students and their families deeply over that extended time period.
From 2014 to 2020, I served as the Title I teacher at Pemetic, working with students in grades K-8 in reading specifically. I have my Master’s degree in Literacy, and it is what I love to teach the most. My days are spent working with small groups of students or individuals across varying grade levels, supporting their literacy learning.
On a personal level, I love spending time with my family: my husband, Ben, and my two kids, Nora and Elias. My favorite things to do are hiking, swimming, exploring the outdoor beauty of MDI, and taking pictures of it all. Having school-aged children of my own has given me another perspective of education from a parent’s point of view, which I have appreciated very much.
